Isn’t it amazing? That I’m a BLINK! A Nigerian BLINK. Don’t know what that is? Blink is the fan name for the K-pop girl group Blackpink. It’s a portmanteau word made up of the words “bl” from Black and “ink” from Pink.
Just like the K-pop boy group BTS stole the hearts of Africans and Nigerians especially, Blackpink is gradually winning over many Nigerians.
Since the 2016 debut of their song “Boombayah,” which has received over a billion views on YouTube, they have reached new heights. This girl group stands out more than the others, which is understandable.
Blackpink has continued to produce hits and top global charts. Not to mention their collaborations with well-known artists like Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Dua Lipa, and Selena Gomez.
Each member has grown both as a group and as an individual. They all shine out wherever they go.
That’s why in this article, for the Blackpink fandom here in Nigeria, I’ll be giving my best opinion on the characters and behaviours of the Blackpink members.
Blackpink members:
Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose (listed according to their first appearance in the YG entertainment industry).
My opinions are based on the reality show Blackpink House and the members who interacted during the period. A hundred days is enough to determine a person’s character but not to judge them by it.
Jennie:
Jennie Kim has stayed the longest in YG. She was the first person in the Blackpink group to make an appearance and start her training.

Jennie is a vocalist and rapper in the group. She has a lot of charisma. She’s sexy. She’s a great cook. That episode where she volunteered to work with the cook and Jisoo to prepare macarons for their fans in Seoul was particularly touching. And the second time she just decided to cook a meal for the girls one day. It demonstrates that she genuinely cares. Jennie strives to excel in all she undertakes.
She is fluent in English because she was raised in New Zealand. She is the group’s boss lady. She has this bossy demeanour that leads you to believe she’s a bit harsh. Even though they are great friends, she can be harsh to Lisa at times. This does not imply that she is cruel. She can be grumpy at times, but she’s a darling who genuinely cares about everyone around her.
When it comes to speaking with the YG president, Jennie is the girl who acts as a go-between for the Blackpink members. She knows her way around because she is the girl in that group who has been with the YG community the longest. She has a better chance of being heard than the others. Jennie is our lady. She distinguishes the group in some ways and gives us the kind of vibes we want.
Lisa:
Only the name tells us that she’s not originally from South Korea. Lisa is from Thailand but is also a citizen of Korea, having passed an exam to be a part of YG. She’s the youngest member of the girl group. She’s the lead dancer, a rapper, and a singer for Blackpink. She stands out from the group. She’s the second person who has stayed the longest in YG after Jennie.

Lisa Manabol is obviously the light of the Blackpink group, and she binds all of them together with her childish attitude. She brings fun to the group. She makes silly jokes. I remember the last episode of Blackpink House when she said “Yadom,” which is a Thai nasal spray, but it sounded like porn in Korea. It was the most iconic scene in that episode of Blackpink House.
Lisa speaks four languages: moderate English, more Korean and Thai, and a little bit of Japanese.
Furthermore, she is a fierce competitor. I felt bad for her when she kept failing in their competitions. During the archery, Rose said to Lisa, “You’re either very good at something or very bad at it.” That was correct. In games, she was sometimes perfect, and sometimes she was the worst. And in every situation, the girl maintains her smile. She never gives up. I was overjoyed for her when she finally won that arcade shooting game. I felt happy for her. When I saw beautiful Lisa win for the first time, my face lit up.
However, Lisa loves cats so much that she gets too busy with them and forgets that she has some practice to do. It happened in the last episode when she came late for practice because she was tending her cats, and the price was a light scolding from her manager.
Lisa enjoys dancing in front of the camera or on stage. She’s a dance machine, without a doubt, and even when she’s exhausted, she just pretends she isn’t. We adore her because she is always agile during her dances. Lisa has clearly continued to progress a long way. Her family is extremely proud of her accomplishments, and she never stops working hard. She keeps going higher and higher, making Thailand, South Korea, and the rest of the world proud.
Jisoo:
Jisoo told us on Knowing Bros, JTBC, how she got her strange nicknames. According to this natural-born actress, she got the name when she was small because her ears were the shape of a monkey’s.

Jisoo Kim is the “unnie” of the group. She’s the oldest and the third person in the group to join YG as a trainee. She’s a beautiful and caring woman who puts the needs of her group members first. Many people see her as the leader of the group, even when there’s none. Jisoo has those leadership qualities in her.
Second, she has a talent for telling funny stories. She is the most authentic member of their group and is a joy to be around. She doesn’t embellish anything on camera. She only ever pursues her happiness.
Also, Jisoo has a deep voice and has the best visuals in Korea because of her pretty face. She’s pretty mature, but there are times she gets childish too.
Jisoo has a fear of heights. In that episode where they all went to do what Rose liked, I noticed something. She was the loudest. Jisoo excels at snowboarding and video games. Everyone in the group pays attention to her. She is skilled at MCing and delivering motivational speeches.
She is the one who knows the least English. Every day, her English improves. Everybody needs an older sister like Jisoo to help them organise their lives.
Rose:
Rose is the last person in the group to train at YG. Her full name is Park Chae Young, but she goes by Roseanne “Rose” Park.

Rose is a beautiful and exceptional singer. I didn’t know she could dance so well until I watched the dance practice video of Lovesick Girls. She specifically stood out amongst her peers.
She has many skills. She enjoys playing the guitar, sports, and eating more than anything else. We saw it during Blackpink House when she ate everything they put in front of her. It’s no surprise she has fluffy cheeks.
And, Rose speaks fluent English because she’s also from Australia.
Rose, just like Lisa, is childish. In one of her interviews at Blackpink House, she said that Lisa means everything to her. The pair are quite fun. They make jokes out of tight situations and play with each other. Rose and Lisa sometimes quarrel and fight, but the two display the real friendship we have with our own best friends.
Rose has a brighter future ahead of her, and many people say that they would love to see her act in Disney. I’d love that too.
As always, Blackpink has come through for us this year, releasing their fully-awaited album, Born Pink.
Pink Venom has already topped the charts and gotten over a hundred million views on YouTube, and so has Shut Down and other songs from the album. These girls have never let us down.
The most talked-about topic is the disintegration of Blackpink in 2023. The girls are happy together; they’ve accomplished a lot, and they’ve grown a lot.
Going their separate ways can be difficult for both the singers and their fan bases, but in the end, they must discover what they are good at.
They must soar above their limitations. They have the option of continuing together or splitting up. In any case, they’ve achieved the fame they sought. Nobody is going down. Everyone must discover their area of expertise.
I wish them all luck in their endeavours.
