Just like the 13th track of her 2021 release, “Red” (Taylor’s version), Taylor Swift seems to be The Lucky One at this year’s American Music Awards, winning in every category she was nominated for.
It was a cheer-filled night at the Microsoft Theatre on Sunday in Los Angeles, where Emmy Award-winning television personality Wayne Brady hosted the American Music Awards.
The bejewelled serenader had a magical night, winning six (6) awards, three of which were for the aforementioned critically acclaimed re-recorded project from the previous year, as well as the distinguished artist of the year award.
With 40 awards, she became the most decorated artist of the award show, surpassing Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Kenny Rogers and falling two awards short of becoming the third most-awarded artist in a single award ceremony something Olly and the rest of her adoring fans would be very proud of!
Also making history was the South Korean boy band BTS, which became the first group to win the Favorite Pop Duo or Group category for the fourth time!
Also on the list of stars to shine at the awards is Nigerian Afrobeat artist Wizkid, who won the Favorite R&B Song for Essence featuring Tems as well as the inaugural category of the new award of Favorite Afrobeats Artist, afro-beating out Tems, Burna Boy, Ckay, and Fireboy.
Similarly, Latin popstar Bad Bunny went home with two awards for Favorite Latin Male Artist and Favorite Latin Album while being the most nominated artist for the night with 8 noms.

The show, currently produced by Dick Clark Productions, was created in 1973 for ABC by Dick Clark after the network lost the contract to air the Grammy Awards that year following the award show’s broadcast on CBS after its move to Tennessee.
For 49 years, the silver prisms have been awarded for outstanding achievements by American artists.
Before 2005, the nominations and subsequent winners of the show were selected by members of the music industry based on their commercial performance in regards to sales and airplay.
Since 2006, however, winners have been chosen in a more fan-focused manner, with the general public and fans voting for their favourite nominees via the AMA’s website.
As of 2010, they have broadened the nomination criteria to meet millennium and Gen Z standards by including social media activity and video viewing.
The first award show was held on February 19, 1974, at the Early Carroll Theatre. It was hosted by Roger Miller, Helen Reddy, and Smokey Robinson.
Funnily enough, while introducing Lionel Richie, who received the 2022 Icon Award, the award show’s inaugural host, Smokey Robinson, noted that fans often get the two of them confused, and Lionel confirmed that he and Robinson even signed autographs as each other for fans who had mistaken them for each other.
Talk about meeting your doppelganger, am I right?
Also, Kelly Rowland had to step up to collect Chris Brown’s award, amidst boos from the crowds, telling them to “chill out.”
This we suspect to be a reaction to Chris’ pleading guilty in 2009 to assaulting his then-girlfriend and everyone’s most beloved, Rihanna.
Don’t forget to let us know your thoughts. Are y’all feeling the new category? Do you think it’s time to let Chris off the hook, or should we keep punishing him?
